Ibrahim Yakoub-Agha, MD, PhD, Lille University Hospital, Lille, France, discusses novel insights into the pathophysiology of cytopenias post-CAR T-cell therapy. Prof. Yakoub-Agha highlights some of the mechanisms of prolonged cytopenias, such as pre-existing poor marrow reserve, observed in heavily pre-treated patients, pre-existing myelodysplastic syndromes, and changes in SDF-1. The relation between high-grade cytokine-release syndrome (CRS) and prolonged cytopenias is also debated. This interview took place during the 3rd European CAR T-cell Meeting.
