TERMIS 2021 | Overcoming barriers to tendon regeneration

Ilze Donderwinkel, Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, provides an overview of issues relating to tendon tissue engineering, a field less developed than bone regeneration. Challenges include finding a suitable source of tenocytes. Whilst mesenchymal stem cells have demonstrated potential to differentiate into tenocytes with mechanical stimulation and growth factors, a proper protocol is needed to propel the field forward. This interview took place at 6th world congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS 2021).
