TERMIS 2021 | Enhanced bioglass for cartilage regeneration

Julian Jones, PhD, Imperial College London, London, UK, discusses the development of bouncy bioglass for articular cartilage repair. Current cartilage regeneration involving microfracture surgery only produces scar-like cartilage and 3D-printed bouncy bioglass of a certain pore channel size enables production of articular cartilage. Whilst initial in vivo studies have demonstrated favorable cartilage growth in animal models, further research is required to elucidate the exact composition of type I and type II collagen in the cartilage. This interview took place at 6th world congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS 2021).
