TERMIS 2021 | Photobioengineering in tissue engineering

Praveen Arany, BDS, MDS, MMSc, PhD, University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, provides a brief overview of photobioengineering in a clinical setting, including the stimulation of certain growth factors with near-infrared irradiation in a spatiotemporal manner. Utilizing photobioengineering approaches enables controlled release of materials over a certain amount of time in a specific area. However, delivery of such approaches remain a major hurdle as various tissues and other existing materials may affect light penetration. This interview took place at the 6th World Congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS 2021).
