TERMIS 2021 | Healing burn wounds with biophotonics

Praveen Arany, BDS, MDS, MMSc, PhD, University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY, discusses the use of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in healing burn wounds. Photoactivation of latent transforming growth factor beta 1 (TGF-β1) promotes tissue regeneration in burn wounds and can inhibit inflammation, reducing susceptibility to infection. Further research is required to assess the practical application of PBM therapy, as the use of bandages in a clinical setting may affect efficacy. This interview took place at the 6th World Congress of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society (TERMIS 2021).
