Durhane Wong-Rieger, PhD, Rare Disease International, Toronto, ON, discusses the need for increased engagement between patients and developers of novel cell and gene therapy products, as well as some of the key challenges associated with the integration of patients into the development process. She also highlights the importance of improving patient education on a range of aspects across the field of advanced therapies, including what diseases can be targeted using different technologies, the drug development process, as well as treatment limitations.
